With the perspective of almost two decades, I look at this thirty-something woman with a great deal of amusement and a lot of exasperation. I am also amazed at how lucky she was: to do this journey and to finish it in safety. Although I am still a romantic at heart, I’ve since learnt that a little motorbike maintenance is good for peace of mind.
This year-long journey has been the most intense period of my life: every day seemed longer, brighter, richer. I suppose it was my belated coming-of-age.
Since then, of course my life has continued and thanks to this trip I have learned that everyday is full of choices, opportunities and perhaps most importantly, near misses.
Every now and then I wonder what Big Thumper is up to. I’d like to think it’s somewhere in the Himalayas going up some dirt track.
