…..and it’s FINALLY Started
By “Hairy” George
Man, Winter gets boring as…well, you know, up here in the Northeast. Da holidays are over, we got cash gift cards we want to spend and we’re ALL ready to roadtrip to a motorcycle event to see what we ABSOLUTELY need to spend that plastic cash on. Kelly n’ Me decided to check out the Progressive International Motorcycle Show up at the IX Center in Cleveland. It’s less than 80 miles from the crib, it was January the 28th, a Sunday, mostly sunny and did I mention we were BORED!
Now, we rolled out early because even as big as da the event site is; parking disappears FAST! We made the right decision too; because the management of the site, in their collective wisdom decided to hold the Cleveland Bridal Show on the same weekend. Ya just gotta shake your head sometimes.
The show had been upgraded a bit from last year’s event. The promoters had added more display space in the “Manufacturers Row” area and the various brands made REAL good use of it! Hell, they even had a Ural model display. The retail area, read “vendor’s row”, had been reorganized as well; with a wider selection of merchandise on display.
This year Progressive added the “Grease and Gears Garage” area to the Progressive Stage. You could watch some killer interactive broadcasts about custom bike building and do-it-yourself work like: building custom exhausts or puttin’ that new fat swing arm conversion on yer scooter.
This year the Progressive IX Center Show was one of five locations that featured the “Metal Mulisha Fritz Army” Stunt Show. They brought along ONLY the best like Viki Golden (Da “Golden Girl”). She’s a 3 time gold medalist in the XGames and the ONLY babydoll to qualify for Supercross (she’s also REAL easy on Da Eyes!). Also along for the ride were JFitzo, the Army’s Frontman, Cal Velocity, the Army’s NEWEST member and MC Kenny “Taco” Bell, retired pro FMX rider. The did some WICKED Kewl stunts including whips, flips, heart attacks and the KILLER KOD (Kiss of Death)! The crowd looked like they needed oxygen after the show!
The Bike show is ALWAYS good at the IX Show and this year they brought the BEST! On display was everything from racing bikes like the 72 HD xr750TT to a classic 66 HD Sportster Rigid Frame to some SERIOUS examples of the current king of the customs; The “Big Wheel” Baggers. There was even a CUSTOM 79 Vespa, yes, Vespa WITH a sidecar painted in chalkboard paint and with CHALK graphics! I’ve sent along a sampling of pics for ya’ll to get a taste.
We left the show and headed to one of our newest favorite watering-holes, The Biker Brewhouse. This micro-brewery taproom is located inside of Biketown Harley Davidson in Austintown OH and is, as far as WE have been able to determine, the ONLY brewery located inside a motorcycle dealership. We grabbed a sit at the bar, said “howdy” to owner, operator AND brewmester, Larry Wilson, and grabbed a couple of his master-crafted cold ones! A fine way to end a GREAT motorcyclin’ day.
Don’t forget to check out our Internet Radio Show, “Hairy George and The Usual Suspects”, every Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8PM Eastern on www.Wlibr.com. It’s also available using the Mixlr, TuneIn or Spreaker apps. Be talkin’ atcha soon….till then, keep it between da ditches!
