It’s been about 2 weeks since the conclusion of the Road Safety Week in India. Held between Jan 11 and Jan 17 in the year 2018, the Road Safety Week is celebrated all over the country with great enthusiasm. Places such as Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata are just among the many in the country waking up to the importance of this movement.
The Rotaract Club of Mapusa, Goa has also been organizing various activities during the Road Safety Week. This year, they had organized something different and for the first time, a rally (and not a race) called RIDENTITY that was aimed mainly at the motorbikers.
Scheduled on Sunday, Jan 7, 2018, the event had the following guidelines for the participating riders.
- All bike documents to be in order and riding gear was a must;
- Full face helmet for the rider;
- Full sleeves jacket or sweatshirt;
- Closed shoes (laced running shoes);
- Full or half face helmet for the pillion rider.
There were spot prizes including goodies such as riding or travel gear from Dirt Sack, gloves from DC, and also discount coupons from Garage Guy that were given away to the lucky winners.
RIDENTITY was flagged off at 9:30 AM, by honorable MLA, Shri. Glen Ticlo and ended with the participation of 64 riding enthusiasts, 72 motorbikes, 89 attendees and a distance of 72 km covered in total, starting from Mapusa Taxi Stand to Ahere Farms, Valpoi via Porvorim, Panjim, Ribandar, Old Goa, Kubharjua, Marcel, and Sakhli. The adventure partner for the event was a team called Eduventures, Goa.
The event was also graced by four brilliant speakers:
- Aaron Cardozo
- Carlton Figueiredo
- Amul Satoskar
- Mr. Sudesh Narvekar PI Traffic cell, Bicholim, Goa (who was also the Chief Guest).
Participants were given t-shirts & participation certificates in addition to delicious breakfast, lunch and energy drinks from Red Bull.
The event saw the participation of various Goan biking clubs and was a great success in terms of educating fellow riders on the importance of road safety and how they can spread the message even further. We at Motorbikes India have a keen interest in increasing the number of motorbikers who are aware of road safety and appreciate any and every effort being made by all of the motorbiking community in India towards this cause.
We extend our special thanks to the Rotaract Club of Mapusa, Goa, the coordinators of RIDENTITY, Rtr. Rohit Prabhu Verlekar, Rtr. Manoj Kanolkar, and Rtr. Shreyash Kavlekar, and all the fellow motorbikers who took part in this event and made it a big success.
